Elementary Biology Part 2: Plants & Human Body

This is a continuation of the Fall Biology Class. We will be learning about plants and about the Human Body. We will be participating in the Science Fair.

week 1: Leaves,   

week 2: Flowers, Fruit & Seeds,   

week 3: Non-flowering Plants   

week 4: Stems,   

week 5: Roots,   

Enrichment Day (science fair) students will pick a plant to research and make a poster about to display at the science fair. Students are welcome to do their own science project at home as well.   

week 6: Skeletal & Muscular System,   

week 7: Circulatory System & Respiratory System,  

week 8: Digestive System & Urinary System,    

week 9: Nervous System & 5 Senses,   

week 10: Immune System, Integumentary System 

I am switching the Plants and Human Body Units so that Middle School and Elementary School are doing Human Body at the same time. 

This will be a continuation of Elementary School Biology from the Fall. I am open to new families joining. Please talk to me if you are interested in joining midway.    

Students will need a copy of Biology for the Grammar Stage: Student guide and a science encyclopedia. They recommend the First Human Body Encyclopedia DK and Basher Science: Biology

There will be several field trips relating to this class. They are NOT mandatory. Mud Creek Environmental Learning Center, New York State Museum, Boston Museum of Science and the Bronx Zoo.

Homework: 
Students should read about and write 1-3 sentences about 3 topics pertaining to the lesson of the week. For example: Seahorses - "The female lays eggs into the male's pouch. He carries the eggs until they hatch. Seahorses use their tail to hold on."
