Middle School Biology Part 2: Vertebrates & The Human Body

We will be studying Vertebrates and the Human Body. It will be a very busy semester. 

week 1: Fish (perch dissection)   

week 2: Amphibians & Reptiles (frog dissection)   

week 3: Birds   

week 4: Mammals   

week 5: Animal Defenses & Feeding and Nutrition   

Enrichment Day (Science Fair): Students will choose a vertebrate to study and do a project on to display for the science fair. They are welcome to also do their own science fair project at home.    

week 6: Skeletal & Muscular System   

week 7: Circulatory & Respiratory System (sheep heart dissection)   

week 8: Digestive & Urinary System (sheep kidney dissection)   

week 9: Endocrine & Nervous System   

week 10: Immune, Integumentary System   

We will have several related field trips. To the Mud Creek Environmental Learning Center, New York State Museum, Boston Museum of Science and the Bronx Zoo. These are NOT required for the class.

You will need a dissection tray and dissection tools. Two students can share one dissection kit. If your student does not want to do dissection please let me know and I will have a different experiment for them on those days. 

This will be a continuation of Middle School Biology from the spring however I am open to new families joining. Please talk to me if you are interested in joining midway.   

Students will need a copy of Biology for the Logic Stage Student guide and either Usborne Science Encyclopedia or Kingfisher Science Encyclopedia
